CAA’s APEX Awards honors regional elite in rental housing
For the first time, the California Apartment Association-Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire has turned to elected officials to help select the “Community of the Year Award for the Greater Inland Empire.”
The Community of the Year APEX Award is given to apartment communities that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to improving the quality of life for their residents and for the local community that surrounds them.
From displaying exceptional customer service and providing quality services and resources for their residents, these properties strive to build a sense of community while creating an enjoyable and safe environment for their residents.
A panel of three elected officials volunteered as judges for this category. They were Upland Mayor Ray Musser, Rancho Cucamonga; Mayor Pro Tem Sam Spagnolo; and Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren, who also presented the award during the 14th annual APEX Awards Ceremony. The event was held Feb. 22 at the Fox Theater in Riverside.
Based on their scores, the following were chosen as a “Community of the Year”:
- Pinecrest Apartment Homes (1-75 units)
- The Enclave (76-150 units)
- Villaggio on Route 66 (151 – 300 units)
- Mountainside Apartments (351+ units)
Until this year, elected officials have not served as judges. But Tim Johnson, executive director of CAA–AAGIE, said “it’s only fitting.”
Johnson continued, “Who better than our local leaders to look at how a community helped improve the overall quality of life for the city and its residents?”
The APEX Awards attracted 850 people, including attendees from every aspect of the rental housing industry, ranging from owners of large and small apartment properties to the managers and vendors who serve those communities.
Some of the other award winners include the following:
- Maintenance Supervisor of the Year (151-350) – Arsenio Leon Barstow Affordable Housing Authority – Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino.
- Affordable Housing Community of the Year – Redlands Affordable Housing Community – Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino
- Regional Manager of the Year – Carrie Caudill, Sequoia Equities
“The APEX Awards is CAA- AGGIE’s way of letting its members know what great things are happening in the Rental Housing Industry.” Johnson said. “Since taking the post of Executive Director of CAA- AGGIE, I have come to further appreciate the economic role rental owners, managers, and their support teams have in the community, we are proud to recognize them on nights like tonight.”
Tom Bannon, chief executive officer of CAA, said he enjoyed participating in the event.
“The APEX Awards gives us the opportunity to recognize the individuals that work tirelessly to provide outstanding service and quality housing for the residents of the Inland Empire.”
