Rent control talks head to NorCal cities next week
A number of Northern California cities will take up rent control early next week.
On Monday, for example, the controversial topic comes to Pacifica and Lafayette, and on Tuesday, it heads to Santa Rosa.
Below, you’ll find links to stories about the meetings, including ways members of the rental housing industry can help.
Pacifica council to take up rent control Monday
The Pacifica City Council will consider rent control during its Monday meeting, and CAA is calling on members to speak out against this flawed policy. At the meeting, rent control advocates also are expected to demand a just-cause eviction ordinance, which would make it difficult to evict tenants suspected of violent crimes, making it impossible to protect your residents and property.
Rent control discussion expected Monday in Lafayette
The Lafayette City Council on Monday is expected to consider a number of bad policies for the multifamily housing industry, including rent control. The council also is likely to consider a moratorium on rent increases — and perhaps a just-cause for eviction measure, which would make it difficult to evict problem tenants, including those endangering other residents.
Rent control topic of Santa Rosa study session Jan. 26
The Santa Rosa City Council will discuss rent control Tuesday, Jan. 26, and hear from a consultant who’s laid out several options for addressing the city’s housing issues. During the study session, set for 2 p.m. at City Hall, the council will also review a possible just-cause eviction ordinance, which would make it unduly difficult to evict problem tenants, including those suspected of violent crime.
