ONTARIO — Thanks to CAA-Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire, local leaders in multifamily housing received an inside view of state and local legislative issues — and the regional economy as a whole.
It was all part of CAA-AAGIE’s inaugural Legislative Leadership Conference, held June 7 at the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario.
The program concluded with Johnson providing members with an outline of the organization’s current government affairs activities, including its strategic plan for the 2014 election cycle.
Discussion of legislation focused primarily on the rental housing industry, with themes and speakers including the following:

- Speakers: state Sen. Norma Torres andAssemblyman Jose Medina
Local Leaders: What’s Next for the Inland Empire and Industry Forecast
- Moderator: Tim Johnson – AAGIE executive director
- Speakers: San Bernardino County Supervisor Janice Rutherford, also chairwoman of SANBAG; and Calimesa City Councilman Jim Hyatt, also chairman of WRCOG.
Industry Forecast: The Impact of the Apartment Industry on the Region’s Economy
- Moderator: Tim Johnson, AAGIE executive director
- Speaker: Steve Pontellfrom NationalCORE.
The panels had lively discussions about the state budget, Proposition 13, affordable housing, economic status of the region as well as where the apartment industry should invest its time and resources locally.
The program concluded with Johnson providing members with an outline of the organization’s current government affairs activities, including its strategic plan for the 2014 election cycle.
Other attendees included members of AAGIE, such as the Sares Regis Group, Bluestar Properties, Inc., Inland Valley Association of Realtors, BIA Riverside County and Baldy View, CAA South Coast. Other local elected officials attending included Councilman Ray Musser, Upland; Councilman Sam Spagnolo, Rancho Cucamonga; and Mayor Aquanetta Warren, Fontana.
