More than 110 golfers have helped the California Apartment Association raise thousands of dollars to fight homelessness in the Inland Empire.

On June 25, CAA’s 20th Annual Summer Scramble Charity Tournament generated $10,000 for HomeAid Inland Empire. CAA held the Summer Scramble  at The Retreat in the city of Corona.

“We were very pleased to team up with HomeAid again this year and excited that we met our goal in doubling last year’s $5,000 golf tournament contribution amount,” said Jennifer Bedford, chairwoman of CAA’s Inland Empire board.

HomeAid, whose mission is to provide dignified temporary housing for homeless individuals and families in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, will use the $10,000 to benefit Operation Grace in San Bernardino.

Operation Grace helps people with housing and supportive services, assists women and children with emergency shelter, and families with affordable housing. Each month, Operation Grace assists more than 600 people with food in their community. Volunteers put in 80 hours every month to make sure people get the nutrition they need.

CAA’s Inland Empire division began its partnership with HomeAid in 2013, using the $5,000 raised in last year’s golf tournament for construction material and supplies toward rebuilding its Genesis House project in Riverside.  Together, they collected more than $40,000 in construction money and $60,000 in in-kind donations of labor and materials for the project. Genesis House is a safe facility that provides up to 32 beds to individuals and families who find themselves temporarily homeless.

“Working with the CAA-Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire has helped us keep families off the street,” said Ray Osborne, executive director for HomeAid Inland Empire. “I can’t thank them enough for their resources and support.”
