EPA: Help develop water-efficiency score for multifamily
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is seeking information from the multifamily housing industry to develop the first 1-100 score for water efficiency in rental housing.
A simple-to-understand score will help building owners understand how much water their buildings are using.
“We need your help to make this a reality, so we’re asking you to share a few pieces of information about your multifamily property/ies,” the EPA said in an email, adding that ENERGY STAR and WaterSense are working together on the project.
To develop the score, however, the EPA needs data by Friday, Oct. 30. See the blue box for details on how you can assist.
The 1-100 score for water efficiency will function just like the 1-100 ENERGY STAR score, reflecting a building’s level of efficiency, normalizing for operational use and weather characteristics.
Property owners could use the score to assess a building’s water efficiency over time or compare the efficiency of buildings in different locations.
“The data you share with us will help validate our working models, increasing the likelihood that we can successfully create the first 1-100 score for water efficiency,” the EPA said.
