Housing Authority honors AAGIE for philanthropy

Twice this summer, the California Apartment Association’s Inland Empire Division helped low-income renters who’d fallen on particularly hard times, including both fire victims and families facing eviction.

To recognize the efforts, San Bernardino County’s housing authority passed a resolution Tuesday thanking CAA-Apartment Association of the Greater Inland Empire.

In the first case, CAA-AAGIE launched a donation drive in August for Housing Authority residents who lost their possessions in a fire.  Collected items included clothing, food, household supplies, school supplies and more.

“With the help of AAGIE, most of the needs of the affected residents, which included several children, were met in less than two weeks,” says a memo from the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino. “HASCSB is extremely grateful to AAGIE for showing the caring and ability to help make right a very unfortunate situation.”

The second act of philanthropy came in September, when about 65 families, many of them low-income, received 60-day notices to move out. The apartment community had changed ownership and was about to undergo renovations. The Housing Authority responded with housing resource fairs. AAGIE researched alternative affordable housing options for residents and provided a resource table at one of the fairs.

The memo says, “Once again, AAGIE showed care and compassion for the residents of the Inland Empire and proved to be a valuable partner for HACSB.”
