SB 1157 (Bradford), passed by the California Legislature and signed by the Governor in 2020, created Civil Code Section 1954.06. This new law requires that, beginning July 1, 2021, any landlord of a specific size assisted housing development must offer the residents who are obligated on the rental/lease agreement of each unit the option of having the resident’s rental payments reported to a consumer reporting agency. The law allows the landlord to require the resident to pay a fee to cover the cost of providing this service.
