On January 29, 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB 91. It took effect immediately. SB 91 establishes a state rental assistance program funded with $1.4 billion allocated to the State of California by H.R. 133 (the “State Rental Assistance Program”). Local governments in California also received $1.2 billion in additional funds for their own rental assistance programs.
