Pacifica City Council to take up rent control

0

The Pacifica City Council will consider rent control during its Monday meeting, and CAA is calling on members to speak out against this flawed policy.

At the meeting, rent control advocates also are expected to demand a just-cause eviction ordinance, which would make it difficult to evict tenants suspected of violent crimes, making it impossible to protect your residents and property.

It is vital that members of the rental housing industry attend and speak against these harmful regulations and remind council members that:

  • Rent control isn’t an affordable housing program; it will not build one new unit of housing
  • Rent control provides a subsidy based on how long someone has lived in a unit, not their need for subsidized housing
  • Residents invested in rental units to save for their retirement and children’s college education; rent control destroys that nest egg
  • Cities with rent control generally have higher rents than cities that don’t have rent control; rent control won’t bring rents down.
If you cannot attend the meeting, please call or send an email to members of the Pacifica City Council and ask them not to punish rental property owners as they work to address the city’s housing shortage.
