Despite objections from the California Apartment Association, Los Angeles moved closer Wednesday to expanding its eviction controls to the city’s entire housing stock.
At present, Los Angeles’ just-cause eviction policies apply only to rental units that fall under the city’s rent control ordinance.
On Wednesday, however, the council’s Housing Committee directed city staff to examine expanding just-cause eviction policies to all rental housing in the city, regardless of size, type or year built. Staff has 60 days to return with a report on a possible ordinance.
