After garnering the governor’s signature, legislation that addresses how property owners and renters deal with bedbugs is set to take effect Jan. 1, 2017. AB 551 by Assemblyman Adrin Nazarian aims to address the need for cooperation among landlords, tenants and pest control operators to successfully control bedbugs. Early detection and reporting of bed bugs is an important component required for preventing bedbug infestations. AB 551 requires specific notices and practices on the part of landlords and tenants.

A lawmaker’s second attempt at providing tax credits for earthquake retrofits advanced Tuesday from the Assembly floor. AB 2392 by Assemblyman Adrin Nazarian, D-Sherman Oaks, would help landlords and other property owners pay for seismic upgrades. Assemblyman Adrin Nazarian, D-Sherman Oaks, has again authored a bill that would help landlords pay for seismic upgrades. AB 2392 would allow a tax credit in an amount equal to 30 percent of the qualified costs paid or incurred by a qualified taxpayer for any seismic retrofit construction on a qualified building. Last year, the same proposal, carried as AB 428, passed both houses of the Legislature before being rejected by Gov. Jerry Brown.
