CAA protects landlords from liability in marijuana-cultivation law

Thanks to amendments from CAA, a newly signed law intended to curb illegal marijuana cultivation now offers law-abiding landlords protections against liability. Under AB 2164, cities can choose to immediately penalize individuals accused of violating local cannabis laws — without first getting a hearing or a chance to remedy the problem. As originally drafted, the bill would have unintentionally left innocent rental property owners vulnerable to immediate penalties without appeal.

Bill targeting illegal marijuana growing could leave unsuspecting landlords in lurch

An Assembly bill intended to curb illegal marijuana cultivation could have unintended consequences for landlords whose tenants secretly set up growing operations in their units. Under AB 2164 by Assemblyman Ken Cooley, D-Rancho Cordova, individuals accused of violating local cannabis laws – including tenants and their unsuspecting landlords — could face fines and other penalties without first getting a chance to appeal and remedy the problem.

Dear Ms. Moss, I want to personally thank you for your timely and very professional response.
