The California Apartment Association is pleased to announce the honorees from this month’s 16th annual Greater East Bay GEMM Awards.
On Aug. 15, more than 500 multifamily professionals gathered at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville to recognize those who have demonstrated exemplary professionalism, leadership, expertise and community impact within the rental housing industry.
CAA, along with RHA Serving Southern Alameda County, presented GEMM awards in 15 categories. And the winners are:

The California Apartment Association today announced that Joseph A. Lawton Jr., vice president of Castle Management Co., has begun a one-year term as president of the association’s statewide board of directors.
Lawton began his tenure Jan. 1 and will take his formal oath of office during the association’s Feb. 16 board meeting in Sacramento.

This year’s CAA Greater East Bay GEMM Awards attracted a record-breaking 510 attendees.
CAA Contra Costa Napa Solano and RHA Serving Southern Alameda County held the 13th annual celebration Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville.
The event honored the industry’s elite individuals and properties in 17 categories. Judges picked from nearly 300 nominees.

Tenant advocates in Richmond and Alameda have filed preliminary paperwork to place rent control initiatives on the November ballot.
In both East Bay cities, the initiative efforts are in the early stages, and in neither case has signature-gathering begun.
The California Apartment Association, which remains opposed to rent control, is studying the filings and working to determine the best response in each city.
The pursuit of initiatives follows months of wrangling over how to address housing shortages in the East Bay and other areas of Northern California.
