FilterLandlords pledge housing units to combat homelessness in Kern County

During an event by a CAA chapter this week, property owners said they would make dozens of units available to Section 8 voucher holders, helping put a dent in chronic homelessness in Kern County.
The 47 units promised by local landlords are expected to be made available by February of next year.
That commitment was made Tuesday, Oct. 16, during the California Landlords Summit on Homelessness in Bakersfield. The event was hosted by the Income Property Association of Kern, a chapter of the California Apartment Association.

U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald this week thanked members of the California Apartment Association’s Greater Inland Empire Division for helping to end homelessness among veterans in San Bernardino County.
In October, San Bernardino County asked CAA for help finding housing for the county’s remaining 200 homeless veterans. This prompted CAA and the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino to host a webinar on how CAA members could help.

Housing Authority honors AAGIE for philanthropy

Twice this summer, the California Apartment Association’s Inland Empire Division helped low-income renters who’d fallen on particularly hard times, including both fire victims and families facing eviction.
To recognize the efforts, San Bernardino County’s housing authority passed a resolution Tuesday thanking CAA-Apartment Association of the Greater Inland Empire.
In the first case, CAA-AAGIE launched a donation drive in August for Housing Authority residents who lost their possessions in a fire. Collected items included clothing, food, household supplies, school supplies and more.

Donation drive fulfills needs of San Bernardino fire victims

After receiving roughly three truck loads worth of donations, the California Apartment Association has wrapped up its collection drive for victims of an arson fire Aug. 18 in San Bernardino.
During the two-week donation drive, the AAGIE office collected an assortment of clothes, toys, food, furniture, gift cards and more. The items are helping four women and 13 children who lost everything.
The fire started in an unoccupied duplex before expanding to a pair of apartment buildings. Authorities arrested 30-year-old transient Allen Simms in connection with the blaze, the San Bernadino County Sun reported.
