At the CAA Annual Membership Meeting, President Mike Bissell announced the results of the 2016 California Apartment Association Board of Directors’ election.
Bissell welcomed newly elected and returning directors to the board during the yearly membership meeting Thursday, Oct. 29. Voting for the 2016 CAA Board of Directors closed Oct. 19.
In accordance with the CAA bylaws, directors serve a term of three years. Newly elected directors begin their terms Jan. 1.

SACRAMENTO — Thanks to the generosity of California Apartment Association staff, more than a dozen foster children will experience a merrier Christmas this year.
CAA employees from throughout the state donated new gifts to children being served by Sierra Forever Families, an agency that helps place foster kids with permanent families.
The toy drive instantly transformed the CAA Christmas tree. Soon, it was trimmed with paper gingerbread men, each listing the name of a child, his or her age and two or three presents that would brighten the child’s holiday.

Managers of apartments and condominiums should not have to post signs at their swimming pools prohibiting diarrhea-afflicted residents from the water.
Such a ban is unenforceable, health protections are unproven, and the signs – which must have words or a diagram — are a magnet for theft.
Unfortunately, the rule is already on the books for apartment and condominium pools built since September 2012. The California Apartment Association and California Building Industry Association are trying to change that.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Mike Gatto joined the California Apartment Association for dinner Wednesday, Oct. 23, before making a presentation on his political philosophy, the 2013 legislative session and what to expect next year.
Gatto, D-Burbank, spoke for about a half-hour during the dinner, held at Mulvaney’s B&L in Midtown on the eve of the CAA Board of Directors Meeting.
An apartment owner himself in Southern California, Gatto shared one litmus test he uses to evaluate legislation.
“If there’s ever a bill that really, really hurts one person, chances are it’s not a good piece of legislation,” he said.
