Redwood City to consider minimum lease requirements, relocation assistance

A proposal going before the Redwood City Council on Monday would guarantee that tenants of multifamily housing be offered leases of at least one year. Under a related proposal, rental property owners would need to off relocation assistance to tenants when certain conditions are met. The California Apartment Association generally supports the concept of these two policies, as they provide predictability and stability for housing providers and residents, without imposing overly burdensome regulations.

Minimum wage increase prompts boost in rents for on-site employees

If you have employees who are legally required to live at your rental property, you may be able to increase their rents. In California, allowable rent increases for on-site employees are tied to adjustments in the minimum wage. For businesses with more than 25 employees, the minimum wage is now $10.50 per hour, an increase of 50 cents, which took effect Jan. 1, 2017. As requested by the California Apartment Association, the amount of the monthly rent for an employee who is required to live on site also increased.

Dear Ms. Moss, I want to personally thank you for your timely and very professional response. You are very thorough AND you provide examples and attachments how to find solutions and how to address the issues effectively. What you did would have taken me hours of research and still I wouldn't feel as confident in my ability because I am not up to date on how certain areas of a contract are practiced.
