The California Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire’s first Moreno Valley town hall reception featured City Councilman Jeff Giba and other city leaders. The California Apartment Association is asking Inland Empire members with properties in Moreno Valley to contact the city regarding its nearly five-fold increase in fire inspection fees. The fees, now $36 per unit, marks a 450 percent increase and could leave some members paying more than $9,000 for fire inspections. A couple of CAA members recently received notices of the higher fees and informed CAA. The cities of Redlands and Moreno Valley have recently warned local businesses to be watchful for fraudulent fire inspectors. Opportunists are always present, but never so much as when the economy is struggling. Fire departments throughout  the Inland Empire and the rest of California have indicated an increase of both individuals and fire protection companies posing in official-looking clothing and performing questionable “inspections” in local businesses.
