The California Apartment Association has issued a letter outlining its opposition to a proposal that would nearly double an annual inspection fee for apartments in the city of Los Angeles.
The Housing Department seeks permission from the City Council to raise the code enforcement fee from $43.32 to $81.59 per unit per year.

A CAA-supported bill that would increase the state tax credit for renters has advanced to the state Assembly.
On May 30, SB 1182 by state Sen. Steve Glazer, D-Orinda, won approval on the Senate floor with 37 yes votes, zero no votes and two abstentions.
The bill would increase the renters’ tax credit incrementally over a five-year span.

Renters should not have to worry about their landlords turning them over to immigration officials.
That’s a key thrust behind Assembly Bill 291. The bill was introduced last week by Assemblymembers David Chiu, Rob Bonta and Lorena Gonzlalez Flether, as well as several co-authors.
