The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has adopted a grant program to provide relief to landlords who’ve experienced lost rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The California Apartment Association helped develop the Small Residential Property Owners Program, which supervisors adopted Sept. 15. The program will assist landlords in recouping rental income that’s gone unpaid during the county-enacted eviction moratorium from March through August.

Menlo Park is conducting public outreach on a proposal that would bring a form of rent control to the city.
Under a plan pitched by the Menlo Park Housing Commission, rental property owners would be forced to pay relocation payments triggered by a “significant rent increase” or a “landlord-caused termination.”
Such requirements would create a form of rent control and just-cause eviction in Menlo Park, respectively.
