The California Apartment Association is a partner in the Housing Our Heroes program, which has helped more than 200 homeless veterans find rental housing since the program debuted in San Diego on March 1.
So far, 130 landlords are taking part in the program, which offers financial incentives.
“Really the bottom line is the ‘Housing Our Heroes’ campaign is making a difference in veterans’ lives, and entire families are making their way off the streets,” Mayor Kevin Faulconer said in this news release. “Our heroes don’t need to spend another night on the street.”

CAA’s Whitney Benzian recently discussed San Diego’s downtown rental market with Smarter San Diego TV.

Expanding on a membership favorite, this year’s Tacos & Tequila event included homemade salsas and bunuelos (Mexican dessert), in addition to the usual tequila and taco tastings.
The May 7 event attracted nearly 175 people – almost twice last year’s tally.
Now in its fourth year, Tacos & Tequila took place May 7 on a sunny afternoon at The Rio Vista Promenade, a beautiful SARES-REGIS property in Mission Valley.
The purpose of Tacos & Tequila is to raise money for CAA San Diego’s Political Action Committee.

California Apartment Association members and guests raised thousands of dollars at a political action fundraiser last week in San Diego.
On Thursday, May 29, “Tacos & Tequila with a Twist” attracted San Diego’s most prominent rental housing industry leaders to network, discuss industry trends and raise awareness regarding the importance that the political process plays in preserving the strength of the rental housing industry.
Whitney Benzian, executive director of CAA-San Diego, summed up the event as “wildly successful.”
