This holiday season, families at Summerset Village Apartments in Fresno have found themselves without heat and hot water.
The crisis, which began last month, stems from problems with a gas line and is in no way the fault of the tenants. Gas-line repairs may take more than three weeks to complete.
We at the California Apartment Association strongly encourage you to step forward and help these residents. At CAA Greater Fresno, we are contributing at least $2,000 toward this effort. Please join us.

The California Apartment Association’s Whitney Benzian appeared on television Monday to discuss CAA San Diego’s philanthropic efforts to end homelessness in the city.
Benzian, executive director of CAA’s San Diego division, appeared on KUSI’s Good Morning San Diego, along with Kris Michel, CEO of the Downtown San Diego Partnership.
CAA’s members have donated about $18,000 to the Partnership’s Make Change Count program to end homelessness.
The program allows the public to make donations at collection boxes that resemble red parking meters along curbs in San Diego.

More than 250 golfers and guests gathered Monday in San Mateo for a California Apartment Association event that raises thousands of dollars annually to battle homelessness in the Silicon Valley.
The CAA Tri-County Charity Golf Tournament generates money for the Housing Industry Foundation, a nonprofit that helps individuals and families in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties remain in or return to stable housing. The foundation also helps provide renovations to shelters operated by other nonprofits in the region.
The amount of money raised by the tournament is still being tallied.

ANAHEIM — About 500 rental housing professionals attended the second annual CAA Orange County Charity Gala on Wednesday evening, raising tens of thousands of dollars for a United Way program that fights homelessness.
Like last year, Wednesday’s gala is expected to generate upwards of $50,000 for Orange County United Way, which will move 12 families into their own apartments through its “Rapid Rehousing” program.

A domestic violence shelter in San Mateo County has undergone a major renovation, thanks largely to Essex Property Trust and the Housing Industry Foundation.
CAA Greater Inland Empire has declared its annual toy and food drive a big success and extends an equally big thank you to all the personnel, residents and members who offered their help and generosity.
A sampling of the companies who assisted in the toy and food drive: Burrtec, HD Supply, United Paving, Bluestar Properties, Sares Regis Group (Cape May at Harveston), Western National Property Management (Ridgeview Apartments) and Lincoln Properties (Alvista Portifino Apartments).
CAA Greater Inland Empire launched the charitable effort last month, offering members a way to help more than 1,200 children and their families.
