The California Apartment Association is working to defeat a November ballot measure that would levy unfair and exorbitant taxes that hurt both landlords and renters in Antioch. Members of the California Apartment Association’s Inland Empire Division hosted a meet-and-greet breakfast with Assemblywoman Marie Waldron, R-Escondido. The gathering took place July 24 at Cape May at Harveston, a Sares-Regis Group property in Temecula. The Genesis House, a shelter that provides temporary housing in the Inland Empire, has reopened after a major renovation project partly shouldered by the California Apartment Association. The California Apartment Association’s Greater Inland Empire division, also known as CAA-AAGIE, partnered with HomeAid Inland Empire to overhaul the 60-year-old, uninhabitable eight-unit apartment building. HomeAid Inland Empire and CAA Inland Empire contributed more than $40,000 in construction money and obtained nearly $60,000 in in-kind donations of labor and materials. Gov. Jerry Brown will return to a CAA podium next month as the keynote speaker at the California Apartment Association’s annual Legislative Conference. Twice this summer, the California Apartment Association’s Inland Empire Division helped low-income renters who’d fallen on particularly hard times, including both fire victims and families facing eviction. To recognize the efforts, San Bernardino County’s housing authority passed a resolution Tuesday thanking CAA-Apartment Association of the Greater Inland Empire.
