The California Apartment Association is working to defeat a November ballot measure that would levy unfair and exorbitant taxes that hurt both landlords and renters in Antioch.
CAA’s campaign, dubbed “No on Measure O,” includes a coalition of seniors, homeowners and local business owners.
However, this tax would not resolve the city’s chronic deficits — and is likely to be used for nothing more than City Hall salaries. Because Measure O was presented as a general tax, the City Council does not have to specify where or how the additional tax revenues will be spent.

Members of the California Apartment Association’s Inland Empire Division hosted a meet-and-greet breakfast with Assemblywoman Marie Waldron, R-Escondido.
The gathering took place July 24 at Cape May at Harveston, a Sares-Regis Group property in Temecula.
Several representatives from Sares-Regis Group, Alliance, Camden and National CORE sat with Waldron for more than an hour, sharing their concerns and discussing current issues at their rental properties.

The Genesis House, a shelter that provides temporary housing in the Inland Empire, has reopened after a major renovation project partly shouldered by the California Apartment Association.
The California Apartment Association’s Greater Inland Empire division, also known as CAA-AAGIE, partnered with HomeAid Inland Empire to overhaul the 60-year-old, uninhabitable eight-unit apartment building.
HomeAid Inland Empire and CAA Inland Empire contributed more than $40,000 in construction money and obtained nearly $60,000 in in-kind donations of labor and materials. This saved Lutheran Social Services more than 40 percent on the cost of the Genesis House renovation project.

Gov. Jerry Brown will return to a CAA podium next month as the keynote speaker at the California Apartment Association’s annual Legislative Conference.
Brown will address California’s top rental housing officials Tuesday, April 22, at the Sacramento Convention Center.
