The Alameda City Council on Wednesday night approved a temporary freeze on rent increases in excess of 8 percent. The moratorium, which also includes just-cause for eviction, is scheduled to last 65 days. Moreover, the 8 percent cap applies cumalitively over 12 months, meaning that if a property owner gave an increase of 5 percent four  months ago, the owner is limited to a 3 percent increase now. See the ordinace for more details. In the face of California’s lingering drought, water rates are going up in Antioch, and sewer-rate increases could be on tap for the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District. On Tuesday, May 19, the Antioch City Council approved changes to its water and sewer rate schedule. The changes take effect July 1. E&S Ring Management has won approval to build a mixed-use development in Pleasanton that will boast nearly 350 apartment units and almost 40,000 square feet of retail. The approval can by the unanimous vote of the Planning Commission on July 10, according to this article in the Contra Costa Times. The development will stand on 16 acres at Stanley Boulevard and Bernal Avenue. “I’m thrilled we’re at this point,” Commission Chairwoman Jennifer Pearce said, according to The Times. “This is a great use for this site. The architect has stepped up, and it looks great.”
