The California Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire’s first Moreno Valley town hall reception featured City Councilman Jeff Giba and other city leaders.
The event, held at Cannon Management’s Overlook at Rancho Belago property, provided a unique opportunity for CAA members to meet Giba and key members of city staff, including the assistant fire marshal and economic development director.

National Night Out visited Lido Apartment Homes in San Bernardino this week.
The annual community-building event came to this apartment complex Tuesday, Aug. 4, thanks to Cannon Management, Atap (All Things Are Possible) and CAA’s Greater Inland Empire Division.
Observed across the country, National Night Out brings police and residents together under positive circumstances, fostering better relationships between residents and law enforcement, building camaraderie among neighbors and making streets safer.

While the economy looks good on paper, America didn’t exactly come bounding back from the Great Recession.
The recovery, according to Professor Jay Prag of the Drucker School of Management, has come slowly and strangely, hindered by a series of fiscal policy missteps, courtesy of the federal government.
“I’ve been around watching this stuff since the ’80s, and this has been a weird economic period with the United States,” said Prag, the keynote speaker at the California Apartment Association’s Professional Property Managers’ Forum in June. The city of Victorville recently passed a revised Business License Fee ordinance that now includes an external rental property inspection requirement to help clean up the appearance of the city’s rental properties.
For more than a year, CAA Greater Inland Empire worked closely with Victorville’s staff to help ensure the inspection component would be effective in achieving the city’s goals, and at the same time, reward rental property owners and operators who take good care of their property. On average, members will save several hundreds of dollars per year.

A big thank you goes out to all the California Apartment Association members who participated in CAA Greater Inland Empire’s Summer Scramble 2015.
The money raised from the 21st annual golf tournament will enable CAA Greater Inland Empire to elect office-holders who understand CAA’s issues. This will help prevent costly policies that harm the rental housing industry and the businesses that support it.
CAA sold out this year’s Summer Scramble, with 144 golfers plus sponsors at the Eagle Glen Golf Club in Corona. The event grossed roughly $65,000 for CAA political action in the Inland Empire.

John Burnard was elected to Riverside’s City Council’s Ward 7 seat in last Tuesday’s mail-in-ballot election.
CAA Greater Inland Empire supported Burnard, who received more than 81 percent of the total vote.
He’s a business owner who understands the need for multifamily housing downtown and will support the rental housing industry’s effort to provide it for the city.
In addition, all three incumbents up for re-election, including Mike Gardner (Ward 1), Mike Soubirous (Ward 3) and Chris Mac Arthur (Ward 5) also won.

A small group of CAA Greater Inland Empire members broke bread with California state Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown and Assemblyman Freddie Rodriguez last week.
The event, Friday, March 13, at the Ontario Double Tree, marked the CAA division’s first Leadership Roundtable of 2015.
The Roundtable came just a few days after CAA’s Legislative Conference, at which members from throughout the state visited with lawmakers at the Capitol.

Tom Bannon, chief executive officer for CAA, will speak at “Housing the Future: The Inland Empire as Southern California’s Indispensable Geography.” Bannon is taking part as a member of the Industry Solutions Panel.
