  Members of the California Apartment Association from throughout the state converged on Sacramento on Wednesday to learn about this year’s rental housing-related legislation and engage in a series of face-to-face meetings with lawmakers. The California Apartment Association today announced that Joseph A. Lawton Jr., vice president of Castle Management Co., has begun a one-year term as president of the association’s statewide board of directors. Lawton began his tenure Jan. 1 and will take his formal oath of office during the association’s Feb. 16 board meeting in Sacramento.

After the California Apartment Association qualified a referendum on Santa Rosa’s rent control ordinance, the City Council on Tuesday decided to put the issue before voters in a June 6 special election. The council had two other options: to repeal the law or place it before voters in November 2018.
