The California Apartment Association wishes to thank the dozens of sponsors who helped make the 2013 Mark of Distinction Awards possible.
The 16th annual event, held Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Radisson Hotel in Downtown Fresno, secured more than 30 sponsors.
Fourteen, however, deserve special mention for their generosity and were honored on stage at the event.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors commended CAA Tri-County on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for helping victims of two fires in Redwood City.
Tri-County worked with the city to find housing for displaced residents in the blazes.
After one of the blazes, at the Hallmark House in July, CAA member Equity Residential responded by offering nearly two-dozen housing units for tenants at an apartment community in East Palo Alto.
San Mateo County Supervisor Warren Slocum and all other members of the county board presented commendations to CAA Tri-County and other organizations including that provided assistance.

CAA Fresno’s 2013 Mark of Distinction Awards will do more than honor peers in the multifamily housing business. It will give back to the community.
At the 16th annual event, HD Supply Multifamily Solutions will donate $2,500 to the Central Valley Veterans organization, which helps local veterans with everything from housing to employment to education.

Once again, the California Apartment Association has taken a successful swing at homelessness.
CAA Tri-County’s 24th Annual Charity Golf Tournament raised money through sponsorship, golf foursomes and raffles.
The generosity paid off during the Housing Industry Foundation’s September Summit gala in Burlingame. Anna Kramer, chairwoman for CAA Tri-County, presented a donation of $57,000 – among the highest amounts since the tournament was organized in 1990.

Following a fire last month in Redwood City, Equity Residential worked with housing officials to make roughly two dozen rental units available to those displaced by the blaze.

Equity is a member of CAA’s Tri-County Division, which immediately worked with Redwood City government to find housing options for tenants forced out by the fire. For its part, Equity helped get fire victims moved into its Woodland Park community in East Palo Alto.

The California Apartment Association would like to thank Fresno-area members who are helping residents bounce back after a fire at Scottsmen Apartments in Clovis.
The July 30 fire destroyed 18 units and displaced 40 residents, according to this article in the Fresno Bee.
