The California Apartment Association wishes to thank the dozens of sponsors who helped make the 2013 Mark of Distinction Awards possible. The 16th annual event, held Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Radisson Hotel in Downtown Fresno, secured more than 30 sponsors. Besides celebrating the best in the rental housing industry, the 16th Annual CAA Greater Fresno Mark of Distinction Awards shined a spotlight on generosity.  The Central Valley Veterans, the main beneficiary of the event, received a $2,500 check from California Apartment Association member HD Supply Multifamily Solutions. Nearly 650 CAA members gathered this weekend to honor the Greater Fresno area’s top rental housing professionals and properties. At the 16th Annual Mark of Distinction Awards Program on Saturday, Nov. 9, the California Apartment Association presented the Mark of Distinction Awards in 19 categories. Nominees submitted questionnaires judged by six panelists from various segments of the community outside the rental housing industry. While the deadline to sign bills for the 2013 legislative session passed on Sunday, CAA’s commitment to building relationships with lawmakers is never done. Consider it a year-round endeavor. Building on that effort, CAA’s 2013 political and legislative game plan included hosting a series of four Legislative District Leadership Conferences. In addition to raising wineglasses, attendees at the California Apartment Association’s Beyond the Vine event raised plenty of money for political action. All told, about $100,000 poured in. Once again, the California Apartment Association has taken a successful swing at homelessness. CAA Tri-County’s 24th Annual Charity Golf Tournament raised money through sponsorship, golf foursomes and raffles. The generosity paid off during the Housing Industry Foundation’s September Summit gala in Burlingame. Anna Kramer, chairwoman for CAA Tri-County, presented a donation of $57,000 – among the highest amounts since the tournament was organized in 1990. “I’m sure everyone in the rental industry would agree with me that the last several years have been good for our industry,” Kramer said. “We’ve seen strong markets, solid growth and healthy transactions.
